Here are a few audio files to demonstrate the excellent receiving capabilities of the new 8 circle 40m vertical array at ON5KQ:

My signal recorded in DX:

Recording by VE5UA:
Larry, VE5UA recorded my transmission at about 18h our local time, when I switched my antenna from front to back. Note that I was running only 100wtts from my SDR-1000 software defined radio ! Larry has a large Yagi antenna for 40m.
The front to back of my 8ele vertical circular array is impressive!
Larry was S9+10dB with the front of the antenna and only barely S5, when I had the back of the antenna on him
5th of Nov 2010, 21h UTC:
11th of Dec 2010, 18h UTC

Recordings by myself at my location on reception with the 8ele 40m vertical array (SSB-phone):
K6MYC - 8th of Nov 2010, 0555UTC, 7140kHz, short pass:

KW7Y - 22nd of Sept. 2010, 0600UTC, 40m short pass:

CW:
20 June2010 at arround 1700UTC
I heard RA9AP in the All Asia DX Contest - I had the antenna to north east, 45degrees and switched several time between NE and opposite direction SW (225degrees)

RK9QWM at the same time:

1 hour earlier UA3MIR arround 1600UTC on the same day in All Asia DX Contest

OK0EU is a beacon transmitting 1wtts to a very low dipole only 5 m high. The beacon is part of a ionosphere research project and fed by a very accurate generator on 7.038,5kHz. I recorded this file in beginning July 2010 at full daylight. German stations at half the distance told me, that they seldom hear the beacon that strong (real S7-8 on SDR-1000 calibrated meter)
I switched several times from east to west - front to back is a very good 25dB

SSB:
MI0RJN in the NW from me, was in QSO with Gerry, VK7GK. Bob from Northern Ireland was well over S9 here , when switching to NW, however completely disappeared when I switched to SE towards the opposite direction;

A very nice signal from Japan - JA5CJZ, Aki is probably one of the loudest 40m stations from Japan. Recorded with antenna to 45degrees on 18th of July 2010 at 1942UTC:

Switching languages with the antenna switch ??
Listen carefully, when I switch the antenna from the local Brazil stations in Portugese away fron South west to the Russians from NE
Same strength - just language changes...hi

Broadcast pirates from Far East on 40m:
Chinese broadcast stations (one from BY and one from BV) on the same frequency... when switching the antenna to southwest to north east the broadcasters became really loud... (24th of June, 7105kHz, 2205UTC)

Chinese over-horizont radar causes still severe problems when DXing into the far east
listen to the heavy noise the radar causes on 40m. I switched the antenna from NE to SW and back several times...(23th of July, 2105UTC, 7085kHz)

How to eliminate QRN ?
A few weeks ago in late Juli 2010 we had a lot of thunderstorms covering the whole eastern directions from me with heavy QRN. The QRN was truely S8-9 on the calibrated SDR-1000 S-meter. When switching to the NW to communicate with UK-stations, the QRN was completely gone, due to the very high rear rejection of the 8circle array.
Here is the weather situation at that moment - lightning is indicated with the crosses.
My location is in the west of Belgium...
